Arlington Apartment / Margate 2017
The apartment is located high up un in Arlington House, an iconic brutalist tower built on Margate's seafront in 1963 and designed by Russel Diploc.
A ribbon of fine aluminium-framed sliding windows offers stunning areal views over the beach, the sea, and the town.
An amazing couple of film-makers came to me to make the tired apartment into their live-work space. The brief was "the captain's cabin". The warm organic patina of the antique reclaimed parquet floor and plywood panelling compliment the exposed cast concrete. The panelling conceals, insulation, services and storage. To give the option of separate rooms, or a more open plan living, the main doors are designed to fold back into a recess to become part of the panelling when open.
